kinda frustrating to admit to a thread partner you're not sure what your character would do in a fraught situation yet, and their response to that is to infodump as if you should incorporate that into your character's motivations when it would make no sense

I was really excited for the live-action version of a comic character, 100% convinced I'd make a journal for them, but now that they're on screen I just Do Not Vibe with the casting at all :/

This mystery plot could have been really fun but unfortunately it ran into the players’ need to have their characters be right all the time.

less a woe and more like a mental itch turned habit that i'm kinda laughing at myself about.
ages ago, i had a great xcanon thread with a stranger, but i can only remember what character it was with, not their OOC handle or account name. i've searched my inboxes and haven't been able to find it again to re-read. i think i must have either deleted the journal i was using at the time, or else i had a very convincingly boring dream about non-boring RP.

it was with a character that's still fairly popular now, so i kinda just tag out whenever i cross paths with one in the wild in hopes of striking gold again. thanks to this glass slipper approach leading me to multiple fun threads, i think not knowing who it was has pushed me towards more RP than if i'd remembered. so it's probably best to leave it a mystery, but i'll always kinda wonder if any of the players i've met this way are the partner from that original thread.

Responding to people with what they say they want, but I must be fucking it up somehow because I get ghosted or no responses and then I see them posting the character elsewhere and tagging around

It happens, it's happened to everyone, but the urge to delete my tags/comments/journal and just pretend it never happened is strong, even though I know it's a terrible idea. I'm just so embarrassed from the rejection

I thought I was apping the right character to this game but I'm already having second thoughts. I still love playing him but I think I might need a game with a little more sizzle to it. In theory the stakes should be higher but in practice most threads are skipping anything more than basic SOL stuff. Or I need at least more active players, waiting a week for one tag at a time isn't helping to integrate him well into the setting either.

I want to play a character from an older book who, while they have a canonical description, never appears the same to anyone; they are a shapeshifter who takes on the appearance of whoever the person they're interacting with most desires (in canon, the main character thinks they are his wife). it's a really fun concept but it would be incredibly difficult to play out.

also, I don't think I could find a PB for them, and there's very little fanart. the book is also not popular and somewhat problematic. there would definitely be no canon mates for them (not that it's important). but i just love the mind fuckery and the possibility of the character actually being seen for who they are, and the interesting things that could be done with them.

tossed out what i thought was a perfectly acceptable "here is an allusion to something out of the ordinary happening IC that we're now reacting to! let's riff and work backwards via RP until we've either established what it was, and/or how our characters feel about it! what was the something? that's totally up to you, your preferences and your imagination, topleveller, i am leaving it wide open!" type starter that seemed to fit the meme prompts, but must have fucked it up somehow, because the response i got was prettymuch "no, nothing happened, why are you talking to me?"

re-reading my tagout to look for something inappropriate or offensive that i didn't intend and am drawing a blank on what i did wrong.
given we're both playing from serialized canons that make heavy use of cold opens, i figured it was thematically appropriate to start a thread that way. should i have been less vague and thought of a specific thing to be reacting to instead of putting it on them, or are in-media-res style starters just some kind of collectively agreed upon no-no that i should have known better than to try?
