just jumping in with an anecdote, but i played from one of those early-00's toonami/wb anime and someone in the game apped a castmate. unfortunately they were a huge weeb in the "subs/original is always better" camp, so they used the character's original name that had been changed for the dub and insisted on using honorifics when addressing my character (which proved they knew nothing about the original, because their character never did that in canon).

it was pretty annoying.
