Yes, the balance between what you weren’t allowed to do and what you were allowed to do was huge. More often than not you couldn’t do something or you could try and fail, but since the outcome was always failing, it wasn't much different from being told no. If your game disallows way more than it allows that's a yellow flag.

The point was reached where players got tired of asking or were afraid to step on toes. Parties and hooking up were the safest options to do independently. Many dropped because that’s boring.
